Civil Rights activist, educator, polymath…and oh by the way one of the best baseball players in Philadelphia in the 1860s, there has never been another Philadelphian quite like Octavius Catto. He formed the Pythian Baseball Club, the best black baseball team in Philadelphia and arguably in the country. He fought tirelessly to get Philadelphia’s streetcars desegregated. He was a principle at the Institute for Colored Youth, now known as Cheyney University. And who knows what else he would have accomplished had he not been gunned down on Election Day, 1871, at the young age of 32.
Honor this great Philadelphian with our tri-blend shirt honoring him, with artwork done by Philly artist Keni Thomas. $5 of each shirt sold will go towards the Anderson Monarch baseball club.
Part of the Shibe Originals collection – designs by Philly artists and exclusively available at Shibe Vintage Sports.
