After the Philadelphia Atoms folded in 1976, Philadelphia began scrambling to put together a new NASL team. Enter Paul Simon and Peter Frampton. They were among the members of the ownership group that brought soccer back to Philly.
Unfortunately, the team was unable to do any rocking of it’s own, going 12-18 in their inaugural season, despite signing several European stars. A year later, they slipped to 10-20, but still made the playoffs and pulled off a huge upset of the Houston Hurricane in the opening round. It would be the only playoff game they ever won, and after another disappointing season both on the field and at the box office, they moved to Montreal and became the Manic.
Notable Players: Alan Ball, Peter Osgood, Johnny Giles
